President Benigno Aquino III has named a new chairperson of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) seven months after Francisco Duque III retired from the post.

According to Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr., Aquino has nominated Alicia Dela Rosa-Bala for a seven-year term expiring on Feb. 2, 2022.

The nomination is subject to the confirmation of the bicameral Commission on Appointments.

Bala recently completed her stint as deputy secretary general of the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. She served as undersecretary at the Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD).

She holds a Master in Social Work degree from the University of the Philippines and earned her Bachelors degree in Social Work from the Centro Escolar University.

As early as April, Aquino said he has already chosen a new CSC chairperson, and that Coloma was included in the list of candidates. — Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez/RSJ, GMA News
