Increasing workers’ pay, inflation remain Pinoys’ urgent national concerns – Pulse Asia

(Updated 12:46 p.m.) Filipinos remain most concerned about increasing workers' pay and controlling inflation, a recent Pulse Asia survey said.

Results of the September 2015 poll showed that Filipinos think improving or increasing the pay of workers (47 percent) and controlling inflation (46 percent) are the two most urgent issues that the Aquino administration must address.

This is similar to the results of the June survey, where 47 percent of respondents said inflation was their topmost concern, while 46 percent picked workers' pay.

Fighting graft and corruption in government (39 percent) and job creation (37 percent) are still at the second cluster of urgent national concerns.

The recent survey was conducted September 8 to 14. It asked respondents to pick three issues from a list that they think the government should act upon immediately. They may also add other concerns not found on the list.

Unlike previous surveys, however, the September 2015 poll was conducted with 2,400 adults respondents, with an error margin of ±2 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.

Poverty reduction, peace and order

Also among Filipinos' immediate concern is reducing poverty of many Filipinos, which got 32 percent.

Meanwhile, concerns related to peace and order -- fighting criminality, increasing peace in the country, and enforcing the law -- gathered 25 percent, 18 percent, and 16 percent, respectively.

Other urgent national concerns are as follows:
  • stopping the destruction and abuse of our environment (13 percent);
  • controlling fast population growth (11 percent);
  • defending the integrity of Philippine territory against foreigners (seven percent);
  • changing the Constitution (four percent);
  • preparing to successfully face any kind of terrorism (three percent).
