Comelec strips dzMM of accreditation due to coverage violation

The Commission on Elections has revoked the media accreditation of radio station dzMM after an alleged violation of coverage rules during the filing of certificates of candidacy at the Commission on Elections in Intramuros, Manila.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez made the announcement before members of the media on Tuesday afternoon.

DzMM representative Charauz Parra was present during the announcement to “personally apologize" for the incident.

Jimenez said that given the importance of the events at Comelec office, dzMM may apply again for accreditation, which the Comelec will take into consideration.

Comelec chairman Andres Bautista became upset during the conduct of the media coverage when Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. filed his certificate of candidacy for vice president.

According to radio station dzBB, Marcos was interviewed by a radio station inside the Comelec lounge. Only Comelec officials may be interviewed at the said area.

Per Comelec rules that came with media accreditation, interviews with candidates may only be done at the designated media area, located at the end of the ground floor, as well as outside the Palacio. —NB, GMA News
