Lawyer Lorna Kapunan and whistleblower Sandra Cam are among the latest aspirants to file their certificates of candidacy for senator on Thursday morning.

Cam is running under the Partido ng Masang Pilipino, while Kapunan said they are reviving Aksyon Demokratiko, a party founded by late Sen. Raul Roco, who once ran for president.

Kapunan also said they will support Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero.

Whistleblowers' Act

For her part, Cam said that if elected, the first bill she would file is for whistleblowers like her.

In 2005, Cam exposed alleged jueteng operations in Bicol, accusing former representatives Mikey Arroyo and the late Iggy Arroyo of getting kickbacks from the illegal numbers game under the protection of former regional police director retired chief superintendent Restituto Mosqueda. The Arroyos and Mosqueda have denied the allegation.

She is a known critic of Justice Sec. Leila de Lima and the Witness Protection Program.

'Ticket of hope'

Meanwhile, Kapunan, known to have handled controversial cases, said she is the ticket of hope of the public.

"I am the ticket of hope and if you don't buy it, wag kayong magalit at sabihing wala nang pag-asa," she said.

Her platform includes honest governance, opportunities for all, peace and order, and education and environment.

Aside from Kapunan, six others have filed their COCs for senator as of 11 a.m. Thursday. Among them is LP senatorial candidate Mariman Adbolodto. — RSJ, GMA News
