Comelec adds registration machines, releases scheds for late registrants

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has added more machines to voting registration areas and more venues to accommodate late registrants.

A report by Joseph Morong on "Balitanghali" said that in Quezon City, those who want to register for the 2016 elections may do so at the following date and venues:

October 28:
District 1 - Wilcon Visayas Avenue
District 2 - QC Hall
District 3 - Eastwood Mall
District 4 - QC Hall
District 5 - Fairview Terraces
District 6 - Wilcon Visayas Avenue

October 29:
District 1, 2, 4, 6 - QC Hall
District 3 - Eastwood Mall
District 6 - Wilcon Visayas Avenue

October 30 and 31:

District 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 - QC Hall
District 3 - Eastwood Mall

Another report on "Balitanghali" said new voter registration machines were distributed to voter-heavy areas in Manila.

It said each machine can process 250 people every 12 hours. For convenience and speed, registrants were given priority numbers.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez advised those unable to claim these numbers to return home to decongest the registration centers.

"Ina-advise po natin na umuwi na sila. Balik sila kinabukasan, come early," he said.

Despite some late registrants complaining due to registrations being transferred to malls, dozens lined up at the Quezon City Hall on Wednesday to complete their biometrics update before the October 31 deadline.

The rush of late registrants was expected by the Comelec despite nearly a year-long period for registration.

"Kahit anong sistema na maayos, kapag prinactice mo siya beyond capacity, magkakaroon at magkakaroon ka ng problema," Jimenez said. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
