In a vice presidential forum held at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo said she did not compare Naga City and Davao City when she was asked if she was in favor of an iron-fisted style of leadership during an roundtable discussion with a newspaper last week.

“I never made any mention of Davao. I never made any mention about comparing Naga with Davao. I was just referring to the kind of leadership. And I stand by what I said,” Robredo, the Liberal Party's vice presidential bet, said.

Robredo, a first time lawmaker, said she and her constituents in Naga City were able to accomplish a lot by making governance inclusive and participatory.

“Lahat ng tao, binibigyan ng upuan sa lamesa. Lahat ng boses pinapakinggan. Lahat ng tao naaaya na lumahok sa pamumuno,” she said.

However, she clarified that she doesn’t want to compare the leadership style in place in Naga with that in other areas.

“Iba-iba naman ang approaches. Hindi natin pinupuna ang kahit na anong istilo,” the lawmaker said.

In her meeting with newspaper editors and reporters, Robredo was quoted as saying that she doesn’t subscribe to an iron-clad type of leadership.

“It may have worked in other places, but from my personal experience, we don’t have to resort to those things,” she said in a report published in the Philippine Star.

Duterte, in reaction, told reporters in Davao City over the weekend that he also does not subscribe to the type of leadership Robredo espouses.  — ELR, GMA News
