Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, the representative of Pope Francis in the ongoing International Eucharistic Congress (IEC), was cheered and applauded by the delegates for his opening statement.

"I am very happy to be here in Cebu. Dako ang akong kalipay na makaabot dinhi sa Sugbo," the prelate said in the video posted on the official Facebook account of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

"Your warm welcome makes me feel at home," added the archbishop of Myanmar.
Cardinal Bo delivered his statement in a liturgical reception held at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.

"Breaking of the word and breaking of the bread constitute an eternal relationship with God and to one another," he said.

"I am very happy to be here, Philippine church has contributed a lot for the growth of the Myanmar church. We have been sending our church personnel for the ongoing training and they return back with the quality training," he added.

Cardinal Bo also spoke against abortion and the death penalty.

The IEC started on Sunday January 25 and will last until January 30. Among the speakers during the international event are the Archbishop of New York Timothy Cardinal Dolan and Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle. — BAP, GMA News
