Jeepney driver berates passengers, is summoned by LTFRB

After abusive tax drivers recently hit the headlines, a couple of jeepney drivers are now the subject of investigation by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board for allegedly boorish behavior towards their passengers, Mark Salazar reported on "24 Oras" on Tuesday.

The LTFRB has vowed to go after the drivers following complaints from their passengers.

The complaints involved a driver shouting at his passengers and another one for telling a blind senior citizen to get off his vehicle.

The first case involved a jeepney on the Libertad-Monumento route with plate number DMD 487. The incident happened on January 19 and was caught on a video posted online by one of the passengers.

“Bakit ayaw n’yong umusod? Ha?! May sinasabi ka?! Pinauupo ko kasi rito, ayaw n’yong magsiupo. Lalo lang magtatagal sa ginagawa n’yo!” the driver said in the video.

He got mad because a would-be passenger decided not to ride his jeepney after the passengers supposedly failed to make room.

When he saw the video, LTFRB Board Member Attorney Ariel Inton said that the jeepney driver showed arrogance.

“Tapos bigla niyang binilisan ang kanyang pagpapaandar tapos sudden break kaya sumubsob ang mga pasahero.... Heto ang mga klase ng driver na dapat mawala sa lansangan natin,” Inton said.

The sudden stop was no longer caught on the complainant's video.

“Sa video mukhang matapang ka eh. Sana maging matapang ka rin sa pagharap samin,” Inton said.

LTFRB has already sent a show cause order to the jeepney operator Regienald Cabansag.

Another jeepney driver lashed out at 75-year-old Rosa Domingo who was only asking why she was not given the senior citizen discount.

The jeep, with plate number TWD 743, was on the Caloocan to Novaliches route.

When Domingo tried to ask for her discount, the driver only shouted at her.

“Sabi nya sa akin, ‘Grabe kayo! Bumaba na nga kayo!’ Biro mo sinabi sa akin iyon. Sabi ko, 'Ma, bakit kayo ganyan,' kako. 'Hindi nako nakakakita tapos pabababain n’yo ako sa ano. Maghahanap na naman ako ng masasakyan?’” Domingo said.

Inton said that the license of that driver should be revoked.

“Lapastangan siya sa matanda, bulag pa, at binastos pa niya. So anang klase siyang driver? Iyang driver na iyan, I will strongly recommend na matanggalan siya ng lisensya,” Inton said.

The LTFRB has already summoned the jeep’s operator Pablo Garado to appear before the board next week. He was told to bring the said driver to the office. -Trisha Macas/NB, GMA News
