PNoy’s sis believes Bongbong should be kept from vice presidency
President Benigno Aquino III's eldest sister believes Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. should not be given a chance to hold the highest elective post in the land.
Asked whether all efforts must be taken to keep Marcos from winning the vice presidency, Ballsy Aquino-Cruz said, "Ah, oo."
"Kasi sabi nga nya we have to move on and we have moved on but we can't forget those ugly things that happened in our history," Cruz told GMA News.
"Hindi lang naman ilang pamilya ang nasaktan. Buong bayan naman naghirap. Kita naman kung paano tayo mg lag behind our neighbors," she added.
Cruz made the remarks on the 30th anniversary of the EDSA Revolution that ousted the dictator Ferdinand Marcos from power.
Marcos has been accused of amassing billions of dollars in ill-gotten wealth and his administration has been blamed for countless human rights violations.
The late strongman's son is seeking the vice presidency and surveys show him at second place behind Senator Francis Escudero.
Asked about Marcos' strong performance in the polls, Cruz said, "Kasi ang ang daming bata, mas marami na sila kesa sa edad natin."
"Kung ako, nadidinig ko 'yung nangyari sa World War II pero hindi ko naranasan. Hindi ganun ang sakit sa akin," Cruz said.
"Marami sa kanila hindi alam 'yung naranasan natin noon. We should do our part in enlightening the young," she added.
Cruz expressed confidence vice presidential candidate Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo will win in the May elections.
She made the remark despite Robredo lagging behind in the vice presidential preference surveys.
"I'm very confident. Hindi ko alam kung bakit.... Siguro parang noong 1986 na hindi natin malalaman na paano mananalo si Cory [the late former President Corazon Aquino] e tangan ni Marcos ang lahat," Cruz said.
"Pero naalala ko sinabi ni [Manila Archbishop Jaime] Cardinal Sin noon sa mom, 'Cory, you will win.' Inisip namin paano kayang mananalo tapos sabi niya, 'Just have faith. There will be a miracle'," she added. —NB, GMA News
