22 hurt after jeep falls into creek in Bataan
Twenty-two people were injured after a jeepney fell into a stream on Saturday in Bagac, Bataan, a report on Unang Balita on Monday said.
Eight of those injured were children.
More than 20 people, all relatives, were on board the jeepney on their way from Pampanga to a beach resort in the Bataan when the accident happened.
Investigation showed the jeepney's brakes failed while it was traversing a steep curve.
The road was closed temporarily and access to four beach resorts in the area was closed as well after the accident.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police said at least 22 people drowned during the Holy Week break, the report said.
Among the drowning incidents were those in Batangas, Negros Oriental, and Negros Occidental.
In Calaca, Batangas, five people drowned on Thursday after they drifted off into deep waters.
The victims were rescued and given first aid but were all declared dead on arrival upon reaching the hospital.
Meanwhile, a Japanese national drowned on Thursday while snorkeling in the waters of Dauin, Negros Oriental with four companions.
His body was found on Friday.
Five other persons died when they drowned while swimming near a beach resort in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.
Among the fatalities were a mother and child and three people who were cousins.
The Philippine Coast Guard said the five were swimming when a huge wave slammed against them.
Authorities are still investigating whether the management of the beach resort should be held liable. —KG, GMA News
