Trillanes grills Cayetano on Duterte's 6-month promise, Davao crime rate
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV grilled opponent Senator Alan Peter Cayetano during Sunday's vice presidential leg of the PiliPinas Debates 2016 over matters related to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Cayetano's running mate.
Trillanes pointed out that despite Duterte's tough talk about making his hometown safe, Davao City is fourth among cities with the most number of total index crimes from 2010-2015.
"Huwag tayong magbolahan dito kasi it is not fair to the people. Huwag tayong magbolahan dito.
Cayetano had claimed that he and Duterte can solve criminality in six months, or they will resign from their posts.
Cayetano said it was impossible for Duterte to rid Davao City of all crimes because he wasn't president yet.
"That’s why we said we will suppress crime. The reason why it is not completely gone or completely suppressed is simple: Hindi naman presidente si Mayor Duterte. Rather than pintasan ninyo ang magandang record ni Mayor Duterte,” Cayetano said.
Trillanes said the Duterte-Cayetano tandem’s campaign promise on fighting crime is misleading.
It’s not fair eh. Maraming sumasakay, maraming nalilinlang na kababayan natin at doon sumasakay kasi baka umasa sila. It’s not fair. Kapag umasa sila, binigay nila boto nila, tapos pagdating doon sasabihin ‘Hindi ko pala ma-solve, aalis nalang ako.’ Huwag tayong ganoon. Pakisabi nalang doon sa presidente ninyo, magsalita siya kung paano niya gagawin iyon.” he said. —JST, GMA News
