The camp of Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday claimed that he is leading the vice presidential race, contrary to the partial and unofficial tally of poll watchdog groups.

In a press conference at Marcos’ campaign headquarters in Mandaluyong City, lawyer Jose Amorado, a member of the senator’s legal team, said that based on their internal tally, the senator is maintaining a lead of more than 100,000 votes over his closest rival, Liberal Party (LP) bet Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo.

Amorado, who heads Marcos’ quick count team, said their data is based on 92.59 percent or 100 out of the 108 certificates of canvass (COCs) from provinces and chartered cities nationwide that their camp have internally tallied.

“Based on 92.59% percent of the COCs that we have internally canvassed, that’s 100 out of 108 COCs,… the vote of BBM (Bongbong Marcos) is 13,506,005, [while] the vote of Congressman Leni is 13, 343,009— or a difference of 162,996 [votes]. This is as of 3:45 this afternoon,” Amorado said.

“That is why we are optimistic that we will still win this election,” Amorado added.

Amorado said the results of the Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) is not yet included in their tally.

Based on the Comelec’s final yet unofficial tally, Marcos topped the overseas absentee voting (OAV) for the vice presidential post garnering 176, 669 votes as compared to Robredo’s 89,935 votes.

A total of 432,706 out of 1,376,067 million overseas Filipinos cast their ballots during the month-long voting period, held in 82 Philippine diplomatic posts across the globe from April 9 to May 9.

Amorado dismissed the statement of Robredo’s camp claiming victory even if all the remaining votes that have yet to be counted were credited to Marcos.

“Sa unofficial results. Ang problema, yung unofficial results, walang kwenta yan sa canvass. You cannot even use the unofficial results to compare with these official COCs,” Amorado said.

Robredo continued to lead by more or less 200,000 votes as of Tuesday afternoon based on the partial and unofficial tally mirrored by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting’s (PPCRV).

Amorado, meanwhile welcomed the pronouncement of PPRCRV chairperson Henrietta De Villa that the council is already planning to stop its quick count to give primacy to the canvassing to be conducted by the Congress’ National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) next week.

“This is what we have been saying from the very beginning... should they finish 100 percent the canvass in PPCRV and the result is candidate A won, yet din the official canvass candidate B won, this will be very confusing and this will be very dangerous,” Amorado said.

“It is either the PPCRV counts is wrong or the count of the national board of canvassers is wrong. So I am relieved that Chairman De Villa announced that they will ask Comelec that it should already stop the count,” he added.

Amorado said their camp will closely monitor the canvassing of votes in Congress and will deliver a “presentation” to prove that Marcos really won the vice presidential election.

He, however, refused to elaborate on the data that they intend to present. —JST, GMA News
