LTFRB official wants operation of colorum vehicles criminalized
Saying that the operation of colorum vehicles sabotages the economy, an official of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) proposed that such operations be criminalized, a report on News To Go on Monday said.
LTFRB board member Atty. Ariel Inton called on Congress to pass a law regarding the matter.
Inton said colorum operations directly compete with legitimate operations of those with franchises for public utility vehicles.
A law would protect legitimate drivers of PUVs, he added.
With the absence of a law criminalizing colorum operations, police cannot arrest those operating colorum vehicles. Only the LTFRB and Land Transportation Office can go after them.
If operating a colorum vehicle will be considered a crime, police will be given the authority to nab offending operators, Inton added. —KG, GMA News
