Palace: Regular working day on June 30, Duterte’s inauguration

June 30, the inauguration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte,  has not been declared a special non-working holiday, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma, Jr. said Wednesday.

Quoting Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr., Coloma said: “June 30, 2016 is a regular working day."

Duterte will formally assume his office at noon of June 30, Thursday, at the Rizal Hall in Malacañang.

In 2010, then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declared June 30, the inauguration of then-incoming President Benigno Aquino III, as a non-working holiday.

Aquino and Duterte are set to meet for the first time on Thursday since the latter won the presidential elections in May. As part of the tradition, the two will talk briefly before Aquino is given departure honors and Duterte takes his oath of office. —Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez/KBK, GMA News
