How the Supreme Court justices voted in setting Gloria Arroyo free
By a vote of 11-4, the Supreme Court ruled to dismiss the plunder case against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The SC on Tuesday also ruled to dismiss the case and ordered her release from detention.
The case, in connection with the alleged misuse of P366-million worth of intelligence funds, was the reason why Arroyo was arrested in November 2011. She was later placed under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center.
Three of former President Benigno Aquino III's appointees—Bienvenido Reyes, Estela Perlas-Bernabe, and Francis Jardeleza—voted to dismiss the case against Arroyo.
The three others—Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, Marvic Leonen and Benjamin Caguioa—voted to uphold the case. They were joined in their dissent by Arroyo appointee, Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio.
