Security around VMMC tightened in anticipation of release of Gloria Arroyo

Security remained tight around the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City on Wednesday in anticipation of the release from detention of former President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Arroyo.

Policemen secure the main entrance to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, after the Supreme Court junked the plunder case filed against former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Tuesday. Arroyo is expected to be released from her hospital arrest on Wednesday. Roy Lozano

The camp of Arroyo is just waiting for a copy of the Supreme Court decision junking the plunder case filed against her for alleged misuse of P366-M funds of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, GMA News' Jay Sabale reported on Unang Balita on Wednesday.

Voting 11-4, the SC en banc on Tuesday dismissed the case due to the weak evidence presented by the prosecution team, SC spokesperson Ted Te announced to media.

Arroyo was placed under hospital arrest in December 2011 after charges were filed against her by the administration of President Benigno Aquino III.

Before the SC decision was announced on Tuesday, relatives, friends, and former Cabinet members arrived at VMMC to visit Arroyo.

Her camp said they do not expect anything to hinder Arroyo's release on Wednesday.

Arroyo will proceed to her house in La Vista Subdivision in Quezon City after leaving VMMC, the Unang Balita report said. —KG, GMA News
