Bato Dela Rosa to Kerwin Espinosa: Surrender or your family will be put in jeopardy
Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa on Friday warned suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa to surrender or his family will face the consequences.
“I am giving him [Kerwin] until today. Kapag walang mangyari eh di pauwiin ko na s’ya bukas. I will ship them out. Hanggang ngayon gabi. Kung walang nangyari then tomorrow morning I will tell them to vacate and ship themselves out,” Dela Rosa told reporters.
Dela Rosa said Kerwin's father, Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., his sister, and the mayor's common law wife, will have to vacate the "White House," the official residence of the PNP chief, by Saturday.
“Tinanong ko yung father n’ya wala pa daw development. Ewan ko kung totohanan yung sinasabi n’ya o kalokohan. Nasa kanya yan, s’ya may hawak ng buhay n’ya. Bahala s’ya,” the PNP chief told reporters.
"'Ayaw nilang umalis hanggang di ka raw dumating. Kung di ka dumating ngayon, di ka pa mag-surrender, then your family will be put in jeopardy. Paalisin ko na sa White House, pauuwiin ko sa inyo, then bahala na sila sa buhay nila," he added.
Dela Rosa said he allowed the Espinosas to stay at the White House because they do not want to return to their home due to threats and Mayor Espinosa wanted to be there when his son surrenders.
“Eh napagbigyan ko eh. Alangan naman kasi walang matulugan, tao lang ako. Nandyan pa rin ayaw umuwi paano yun. Gusto n’ya andito s’ya pagdating nung kanyang anak pero siguro pauwiin ko na yan, bahala ka sa buhay mo, ayaw ko na magtagal siya dyan,” he said.
Dela Rosa said he wants the Espinosas out of the White House because he could no longer tolerate the smell of cigarette.
“Hindi na, lessons learned ako diyan. Kawawa yung kwarto ng anak ko, mabaho sa sigarilyo. Grabe manigarilyo sila, yung father, asawa, at saka yung anak parehong mga smoker eh ang baho na. Pagdating nung anak ko galing Davao kapag matulog na yun magrereklamo,” he said.
Dela Rosa said the Espinosas will surely ask for security cover once they leave his official residence following the shooting incident last Wednesday that killed six men believed to be part of the mayor's private army.
The PNP chief said he already lost his patience with Kerwin and all alleged big-time drug personalities who refuse to surrender.
"Matagal nang naubos ang pasensya ko. Hindi lang sa kanya kundi sa kanilang lahat," Dela Rosa said.
Asked to give a message to Kerwin, Dela Rosa said: "Bahala ka sa buhay mo Kerwin. Magdasal ka na."
Asked if the presence of the Espinosa family at the White House poses a danger to the PNP chief's life, Dela Rosa said it is the other way around.
“Maybe we can make it the other way around. Their lives are in danger while they are inside my White House. I can kill them anytime if I want to,” Dela Rosa said.
Kerwin and his father have been asked by President Rodrigo Duterte to surrender or risk being killed if they resist arrest.
The mayor surrendered on Tuesday but Kerwin remains in hiding and was reported to have left for Malaysia on June 21, nine days before Duterte assumed office on June 30.
Kerwin reportedly told his relatives that he will surrender, a development welcomed by Dela Rosa on who even promised to fetch the suspected drug lord at the airport. — Virgil Lopez, Amita Legaspi/RSJ/VVP, GMA News
