Jaybee Sebastian unlikely to attend resumption of House probe on Bilibid drug trade – lawyer
High-profile inmate Jaybee Sebastian is unlikely to attend the resumption of the House of Representatives’ probe into the drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) since he is still recovering from the wounds sustained in a stabbing incident inside the national penitentiary, his legal counsel said Wednesday.
Lawyer Eduardo Arriba said Sebastian’s attending physician told Bureau of Corrections officials that he (Sebastian) cannot be transported to the House since there are tubes still connected to his chest.
“I’m not sure but I was informed this morning by officers of the Bureau of Corrections that the attending physician may not allow Sebastian because of his present medical condition… [which] prevents him from going to Congress to testify,” Arriba told reporters when asked if his client will attend the House justice committee’s ongoing investigation into the NBP drug trade.
The probe resumes Thursday, Oct. 6.
Sebastian sustained stab wounds in the chest and back during the Sept. 28 attack inside the NBP’s Building 14, which left an inmate dead.
He was invited to the House hearing to shed light on the drug trade inside the national penitentiary. Senator Leila de Lima, who served as justice secretary under the Aquino administration, said Sebastian was a government asset. — RSJ, GMA News
