'Saksi' wins excellence award for reportage on Lumad plight

GMA Network's late night news program "Saksi" has been recognized for its reportage on the plight of indigenous peoples in Mindanao.

Producer Hon Sophia Balod received the Gawad Agong 2016 for Excellence in News Reporting for the special report "Edukasyon ng mga Lumad, nasasakripisyo dahil sa karahasan" that aired on Saksi on October 7, 2015.

The story followed the plight of 3,000 Lumads evacuated from Sitio Han-ayan, Lianga, Surigao to escape hostility after two tribal leaders were found dead in the village. 

The report describes the Lumad's perseverance to continue education despite being caught in crossfire. —JST, GMA News
