Proposed House bill seeks to make grave robbery a crime

Former President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has filed a bill at the House of Representatives seeking to make grave robbery a separate crime, a report on Unang Balita on Wednesday said.

The bill seeks to amend the Revised Penal Code and add a provision covering grave robbery.

This is due to the rising number of robbery cases in cemeteries, the report said.

The robbers reportedly target tombs of the dead to get their jewelry and other valuables.

The bill seeks to penalize those found guilty of grave robbery with imprisonment of six to 12 years. —KG, GMA News
