Senate President tells Andanar: Review your history
Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Monday told Communications Secretary Martin Andanar to "review his history" after calling protesters of
the hero’s burial for the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos as “temperamental brats.”
“Brats? I don’t think they’re brats. Of course, this is a very emotional issue. But they’re not brats,” Pimentel told reporters when sought for comment.
Andanar had said in a newspaper column that those refusing to accept the Supreme Court's ruling allowing Marcos' burial at the heroes' cemetery are "temperamental brats refusing to concede to the outcome of regular processes
“Actually, a lot of protests are coming from the poorer segments of society. They can never be called brats. Actually, principled positions, principled stand. So, Martin Andanar should review his history,” the Senate leader added.
Pimentel, a close ally of President Rodrigo Duterte, is opposed to the idea of burying Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
He earlier said that he would talk Duterte to reconsider his position on the burial.
Voting 9-5 and one inhibition, the 15-man SC dismissed the consolidated petitions seeking to stop Marcos' burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Asked if he thinks he can persuade the President, Pimentel said: “Habang may buhay, may pag-asa.”
The two are scheduled to meet Monday night, along with other members of the legislative chamber in preparation for the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council meeting next month. —ALG, GMA News
