Duterte signs EO creating committee to review 1987 Constitution

President Rodrigo Duterte has signed an executive order creating a 25-member Consultative Committee tasked to review the 1987 Constitution within six months from the day it is convened.

Executive Order No. 10 was signed by Duterte on December 7.

The Consultative Committee will be under the Office of the President.

It will be composed of not more than 25 members who will study, conduct consultations, and review the provisions of the 1987 Constitution.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, or his representative, is expected to act as an observer during Committee deliberations.

Members of the Committee should be a natural-born citizen and resident of the Philippines, at least 25 years old, and a qualified voter.

Duterte campaigned bannering federalism as the only way to end conflicts in Mindanao.

During his State of the Nation Address in July, Duterte vowed to step down if the Congress would pass federalism in the middle of his term. — VVP, GMA News
