MMDA’s radio station signs on Sept 24

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has a radio station that will sign on air for 17 hours starting September 24. MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando on Wednesday said radio 1206 kHz on the AM band will air the agency's projects and the traffic situation and hourly updates in Metro Manila. “This will be an effective vehicle for information and feedback for motorists and the general public as well," Fernando said. “They would know first hand from our enforcers on the streets and our anchor persons on air which roads are hassle-free before they go to work, to school or to any destination," he said. He said it will sign on at 4 a.m. and will be on air for 17 hours. It will be manned by trained personnel from the MMDA’s traffic operation center (TOC) headed by executive director Angelito de Dios. “The program will be a virtual road show with lots of news, information, public service, entertainment and with an every-hour-on-the-hour traffic reports," Fernando said. Fernando said the program’s anchor will also entertain calls and complaints from the public. “Aside from being informative, it will also serve as a conduit for information exchange between the MMDA and its listeners about traffic situations, road conditions, monitoring tips and reminders for the convenience and safety of road users and the general public," Fernando said. Fernando said he expects that about 1.4 million motorists and the 13 million residents in Metro Manila would benefit from the program. He said they started training MMDA personnel who will run the radio station two months ago. The MMDA has a radio program on radio DZBB (AM 594), which airs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. every Sunday. Fernando said he, De Dios, MMDA general manager Robert Nacianceno and Deputy chairman Cesar Lacuna will be on air to respond to complaints of the public and update them on the MMDA’s programs. - GMANews.TV
