There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines after the 7.2 quake hit the Fiji islands early Wednesday morning, according to the advisory issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
A 7.2-magnitude temblor was recorded south of the Fiji islands at 5:53 a.m. with a depth of 10 kilometers.
There is no destructive Pacific-wide threat, the agency said, based on the historical and tsunami data.
"However, earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coast located within a hundred kilometers of the epicenter," the Phivolcs added. — BAP, GMA News
