Arenas, also a member of the Board of Governors of the Philippine Red Cross, will replace Eugenio "Toto" Villareal. Her term will end on September 30, 2017.
Arenas is the daughter of philanthropist and socialite Rose Marie "Baby" Arenas.
Last month, Duterte appointed former sexy actress and blogger Mocha Uson to the MTRCB as board member.
Senator Grace Poe, who was MTRCB chairperson before she ran for the Senate in 2013, had good words for the new chair.
"I welcome the President's appointment of former Pangasinan Rep. Rachel Arenas as the new MTRCB chair," Poe said.
"I am confident that she will ably lead the agency towards continuity in the fulfillment of its goal of intelligent and discerning viewership," she added. —ALG/NB, GMA News
