PHIVOLCS: No tsunami alert after Mabini, Batangas quake
The magnitude-5.6 quake that struck off Mabini, Batangas on Saturday afternoon will not trigger a tsunami, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
"Hindi magdudulot ng tsunami ang magnitude-5.6 na lindol kanina. Pero tama lang na mag-evacuate bilang pag-iingat," PHIVOLCS chief Renato Solidum said in a radio dzBB interview.
PHIVOLCS said the quake struck at 3:07 p.m. one kilometer southwest of Mabini town.
The United States Geological Survey, meanwhile, reported two earthquakes in Mabini town and Tanauan City. It said the two quakes struck a minute apart or at 3:08 p.m. and 3:09 p.m.
Solidum said during the interview that the Mabini earthquake was caused by the movement of a local fault.
He said that quake was related to the quake in Tingloy, Batangas last Tuesday night.
PHIVOLCS said the Mabini quake was felt strongest at Intensity 7 in Mabini, Batangas.
It was also felt at:
- Intensity 6 in Calatagan, Nasugbu and Tingloy, Batangas
- Intensity 5 in Batangas City, Sto. Tomas and Lemery Batangas; and Tagaytay City
- Intensity 4 inDasmarinas, Cavite; Lucena City; and Pateros City
- Intensity 3 in Makati City; Pasay City; Quezon City; Muntinlupa City; Malabon City;
- Mandaluyong City; and Bacoor, Cavite
- Intensity 2 in Daet, Camarines Sur
