AFTER BATANGAS QUAKES

Over 300 people on Tingloy Island flee homes amid aftershocks

More than 300 residents and tourists were forced to flee their homes in Barangay Gamao on Tingloy Island after a series of earthquakes struck Batangas province on Saturday.

Super Radyo dzBB's James Agustin reported that 314 individuals sought refuge at the Gamao Elementary School as Saturday afternoon's quakes severely affected the barangay.

Tingloy police said that 10 houses have been destroyed and more than 100 others were partially damaged, adding that cracks were seen in a bridge on the island, the report said.

Meanwhile, all patients of the Mabini General Hospital have been evacuated for fear the building will collapse due several cracks on its walls the quakes caused.

Also, several houses in the barangay need rehabilitation from the damage the quakes left.

Tingloy was the epicenter of a magnitude 5.5 earthquake that struck Batangas last Tuesday night, and Saturday's quakes did not spare the island

On the other hand, three houses in Barangay Papaya were destroyed, while five others sustained partial damage, authorities said, adding that several streets were not passable to vehicles.

Elsewhere, at least 30 houses were damaged in Barangay Marikaban, and at least one house was damaged in Barangay Sto. Tomas.

Other roads on Tingloy Island are passable to vehicles and sea vessels from the Mabini Port to the island have resumed operations.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard Mabini sub-station has deployed several personnel to Tingloy Island on Sunday to assess the quakes' damage on the island town.
