PNP calls out Grab to ensure safety of parcels delivered through GrabExpress
The Philippine National Police on Tuesday called out Grab Philippines to ensure that packages sent through its delivery service are safe amid the successive blasts in Quiapo, Manila that killed one of its riders last week.
PNP spokesperson Sr. Supt. Dionardo Carlos said Grab should add a safety measure for its GrabExpress service and do an initial check on the packages it delivers.
"Sana nga on the part of the company maging maingat," Carlos said at a news conference in Camp Crame.
"Hopefully Grab will do an initial check, a probing question, probably a document they can sign, a declaration, and establish the true identity of the sender para may babalikan tayo," he added.
GrabExpress allows users to send parcels at a pick-up point and deliver them to any destination in Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, Carlos also urged Grab Philippines to go beyond the delivery of parcels to their clients.
"Not just look to provide the services, but also look at the safety of their personnel and also the clients," Carlos said.
Two persons have been killed and six others, including four policemen, were injured during two explosions in Quiapo district on Saturday.
The first explosion occurred along Norzagaray Street when a GrabExpress rider delivered a rigged package which was received by a certain Mohamad Bainga.
Investigators said the package, believed to have been detonated by remote trigger, was targeted against a Shiite cleric who also works at the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
A second explosion occurred during the post blast briefing of National Capital Region Police Office Director Oscar Albayalde.
Carlos said the two explosions are still under investigation.
PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa has ruled out the possibility that the explosions involved a terrorist group. —KG, GMA News
