Former President Fidel Ramos on Friday scored the presence of many government officials who joined President Rodrigo Duterte in his official visit to Russia, which was cut short, amid attacks by ISIS-inspired Maute Group.

“In the first place, some people should have stayed behind to take care of the situation with the President,” Ramos said.

“[But] the Executive Secretary and so many secretaries and so many generals [joined] the junket,” Ramos said. “Pardon me for calling it a junket because it now turns out that it was a junket.”

Ramos questioned why even PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa was with the President in Russia.

Duterte, along with majority of those who joined the trip, returned Wednesday after the President declared martial law in Mindanao amid continued clashes with the Maute group. —KG, GMA News
