There are still some 400 members of the Maute group left in Marawi City, Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief Eduardo M. Año said on Sunday.
Año also revealed on GMA 7 news program "24 Oras Weekend" that out of the 400 members left, 200 were Maranaos and some 50 were Yakans — the latter said to be recruits of Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon.
Año also confirmed on Sunday that the Maute group had a direct line to Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
"They have a line connected to ISIS (Islamic State)... which also incited them to attack Marawi. They kill as many non-Muslims as they can to show to the world that there is already an existing ISIS camp in the Philippines," Año explained. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
