Arroyo appoints Razon as PNP chief

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Monday announced that she has chosen Deputy Director Gen. Avelino Razon Jr as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Mrs Arroyo made the announcement at a business forum in Iligan City. The President flew to northern Mindanao early Monday afternoon. "All of these will help our incoming chief of the PNP, Avelino "Sonny" Razon Jr," the President said. Razon will assume his new position starting October 1 and replaces current Director Gen. Oscar Calderon who is retiring on that day. A member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) class of 1974, Razon is a mistah or classmate of Armed Forces chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. Among the honorary members of the said PMA class is First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo. - GMANews.TV
