Smart, Globe deploy ‘libreng tawag’ stations in quake-hit Visayas areas

To help the victims of magnitude-6.5 earthquake that hit Jaro, Leyte, Globe Telecom Inc. and PLDT Inc.'s mobile subsidiary Smart Communications are setting up free calls and charging stations in quake-affected areas in the Visayas.

In a statement on Saturday, Globe said it has set up 41 "Libreng Tawag" and charging stations across the provinces of Leyte, Samar, and Bohol.

"Due to the damage sustained by electric power stations, there is still no electricity in the said areas, leaving residents with limited means to charge their mobile phones and make calls," the Ayala-led Globe telco noted.

Globe's free calls and charging stations are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the following areas:

Leyte

1. Ormoc City - Brgy. Cogon near Jollibee

2. Ormoc City - Quadrangle

3. Baybay City - Plaza Rizal

4. Hilongos - SF Commercial, Hilongos

5. Tacloban City - Sonny John Store, Brgy. Manlurip along highway in front of Sunnyville

6. Tacloban City - Marcab Store, Tacloban City new bus terminal

7. Tacloban City - Sacay Store, San Salvador St., Brgy. Puri Palo, Leyte

8. Tacloban City - Rose Tan Store, Don Gorgonia St., V&G, Tacloban

9. Kananga - In front of Liz Barbecue, Real St. corner Larrazabal St.

Southern Leyte

1. Maasin City - Andoks, in front of Mang Tinapay

Likewise, PLDT's Smart and Sun, in partnership with its distributors continues to offer "Libreng Tawag" and "Libreng Charging" assistance to residents affected by the recent earthquake in Leyte, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Bohol.

Smart's free calls and charging station is located in its store in Ormoc City. Another free call station was set up in Kananga Gymnasium in Leyte.

More free charging stations were put up by the Pangilinan-led Smart telco in the following locations:
