PNA issues apology for 'DOLE story'
The Philippine News Agency (PNA), a state-run news outlet, has acknowledged it used a wrong photo to accompany a story on the government's holiday pay rules.
The agency has also assured readers that action has been taken that is aimed providing readers accurate information.
"In a story titled "DOLE issues pay rules for 2018 holidays" posted in the PNA website on Aug. 11, 2017, the accompanying photo was that of Dole Philippines," the agency posted on its official Facebook account.
"In an effort to ensure that all stories are accompanied by a photo, the staff inadvertently attached the wrong photo rather than the logo of the Department of Labor and Employment. It was a careless act on the PNA editorial staff."
The news agency posted a story on the government's pay rules for non-working holidays in 2018 and used the logo of a known pineapple company as the thumbnail instead of the logo of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The apparent gaffe came just days after the PNA reprinted an article from the Chinese news agency Xinhua that described as "ill-founded" a 2015 arbitration ruling that favored the Philippines' claims over the South China Sea. — BAP, GMA News
