Mass offered for Fernando Poe Jr's 78th birth anniversary

The family and friends of the late action star Fernando Poe Jr. on Sunday offered a mass in commemoration of his 78th birthday at the Manila North Cemetery, radio dzBB's Mao Dela Cruz reported.

Poe's daughter, Senator Grace Poe, and wife, actress Susan Roces, led the Mass, which was also attended by some of the actor's supporters and friends in the film industry.

Poe, dubbed Filipino action King ("Da King") became one of the most prominent names in the Philippine movie industry, having starred in many action films during the height of his career from the 1960s to the 1990s, including "Ang Panday" and "Ang Probinsyano."

Poe ran for president in the 2004 elections, but lost by a close margin to former President now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The actor died on December 14 of the same year, at the age of 65. —Erwin Colcol/LBG, GMA News
