Fighting between Philippine security forces and the ISIS-inspired Maute group erupted anew on Saturday near several mosques in Marawi City.
According to a News TV Live report, the firefight broke out near the Bato Mosque and two other smaller mosques in the area.
The military had earlier regained control of the Marawi Grand Mosque.
Authorities believed that several Maute-group leaders were hiding near the Bato Mosque. Airstrikes were also launched on terrorist positions.
The Marawi siege started on May 23 following an attack by the Maute group, which prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to place the whole of Mindanao under martial law. — Anna Felicia Bajo/DVM, GMA News
