Penalties for violating gun ban for barangay, SK polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has warned that gun owners could be thrown to jail for one to six years if they would violate the gun ban, which starts on September 23.

The gun ban starts on the day the election period for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections begins.

Apart from imprisonment, violators would be deprived of their right to vote and to hold public office.

Those who wish to seek a gun ban exemption may file an application with the Comelec starting September 21.

Candidates for the Barangay-SK elections may file their certificates of candidacy from Sept 21 to 30.
