The Manila Police District (MPD) has beefed up its security around the vicinity of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) for the 2017 Bar Exams which will be held on all four Sundays of November.

In a statement on Saturday, MPD spokesperson Superintendent Edwin Margarejo said that as early as 4 a.m. of Saturday, they have deployed personnel for Explosive and Ordnance Disposal (EOD) paneling and CCTV monitoring in all four corners of UST campus.

A total of 7,227 law graduates are expected to troop to UST to take the Bar examinations after the Supreme Court gave the nod on Friday.

MPD Chief Supt. Joel Coronel earlier said a total of 775 policemen would be deployed in and around the campus on November 5, 12, 19, and 26.

"MPD Health service is also tasked to provide medical personnel for emergency cases. Covert security will also be deployed in the school premises," Margarejo said.

"All tasked personnel shall strictly implement 'no tents and tarpaulins,' prohibitions of drinking of intoxicated beverages, and 'no loud music' at the vicinity of UST during the duration of the Bar examination," the MPD spokesperson added. — Ted Cordero/MDM, GMA News
