President Rodrigo Duterte and US President Donald Trump finally met face to face at the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) family photo call in Da Nang, Vietnam.

The encounter between the two leaders was brief, according to Special Assistant to the President Bong Go.

"See you tomorrow," Trump told Duterte according to Go.

Trump is expected to fly to Manila tomorrow, November 12, to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, which the Philippines chairs this year.

Duterte, meanwhile, is scheduled to fly home tonight after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Duterte and Trump will hold bilateral talks on November 13.

Duterte had told media covering him in Da Nang, Vietnam that he was expecting an "interesting time" when he meets Trump.

In the APEC family photo, Duterte stood at the second row, standing beside Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stood right next to Trump.

In front of President Duterte was Xi.
