SC mourns passing of ex-Justice Flerida Ruth Romero
Retired Supreme Court (SC) Justice Flerida Ruth Romero died on Friday. She was 88.
The SC took to social media to mourn the passing of Romero. Details of her death and wake, however, were not immediately available.
The SC mourns the passing of its 125th AJ, Hon. Flerida Ruth P. Romero (appointed Oct. 21, 1991; retired August 1, 1999). She served as Secretary General of the 1986 Constitutional Commission, taught at the UP, and was Director of the UP Law Center. Wake details to follow.

Born on August 1, 1929 in Tondo, Manila, Romero served on the high court for almost eight years, spanning the administrations of former presidents Corazon Aquino, Fidel Ramos, and Joseph Estrada.
She assumed office on October 21, 1991, and served until August 1, 1999 when she reached the mandatory retirement age of 70 for judges and justices.
Romero obtained her law degree from the University of the Philippines in 1952 and master of laws from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 1955.
She was director and dean of the UP School of Labor and Industrial Relations from 1962 to 1963.
Romero was special assistant to then President Aquino when she was appointed to the SC to succeed the late Justice Abraham Sarmiento. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
