Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana belittled Wednesday the call of the Communist Party of the Philippines to overthrow the administration.

In a statement dated January 7, the CPP said the present conditions are rife for the overthrow of the Duterte administration.

“Duterte’s overthrow is the most important task at present for the revolutionary forces. It is crucial to the rapid strengthening and growth of the revolutionary forces in order to defend the people against the regime’s relentless attacks,” it said.

It added that the revolutionary forces should ally with other sectors and groups to create the widest anti-Duterte alliance, including groups with existing sharp contradictions with the revolutionary movement.

“While these contradictions will not be swept aside, it is imperative that the sharpest blows should be aimed at the semifeudal and semicolonial system’s representative, the US-Duterte regime,” it said.

But Lorenzana said the statement of the CPP once again shows how far the communist are from the truth “and how years of propagating lies have deluded their sense of reality.”

He said that the President is far from being increasingly isolated from the Filipino people since according to the latest survey, he has a very high 82 percent approval and trust rating.

The Defense chief added that the CPP’s call for an unholy alliance of all groups opposed to the government just to bring down the President “brings to light their bankrupt ideology.”

“This also manifests the CPP’s desperation since the movement is now crumbling from within. They have already lost their mass-based support and their members are returning to the fold of law as their motives and criminal acts have already been exposed to their former cadres and the entire Filipino nation,” he said.

Lorenzana assured the public that government troops will do their utmost to protect everyone, “especially the duly elected President of our country from the likes of the terrorist CPP-NPA.”

“We will guard the institutions which are sacred to our democratic way of life and not let any group destroy the ideals which our nation's forefathers fought and died for,” he added. — RSJ, GMA News
