Palace condemns cyberattack vs. VERA Files

Malacañang on Tuesday condemned the cyberattack against independent media organization VERA Files.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a text message to GMA News Online that VERA Files should report the incident to the National Bureau of Investigation.

"They should report it to NBI cybercrimes office. We condemn the attack and will ask authorities to investigate," he said.

VERA Files said that a cyberattack took down its website shortly after it published a story claiming that President Rodrigo Duterte and his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio, had at least P100 million in undeclared joint deposits and investments.

Roque at a briefing on Monday said that he could not comment on what he called “hearsay.”

He said that VERA Files could not obtain such documents since bank statements should be confidential.

Duterte-Carpio in a statement said her lawyer would be ready to answer the allegations in court. — BM, GMA News
