PNP-HPG, Smart launch text hotline for road safety

The Philippine National Police's Highway Patrol Group and Smart Communcations, Inc. on Thursday launched a text reporting and feedback system with the aim to reduce road crash deaths, injuries and crime on major thoroughfares nationwide.

HPG director Chief Superintendent Arnel Escobal said that the HPG Text Hotline (7444-474) is meant to be a platform for motorists to text their safety and security concerns such as carnapping incidents, highway robbery, and violations of traffic laws and regulations.

Complaints and reports about irregularities and illegal acts committed by traffic enforcers against motorists can also be sent to the hotline.

It will also provide real-time emergency and priority information regarding road safety and security.

The project is in line with the HPG's "Disiplinadong Driver" campaign, which was launched last year to address the gridlock hounding Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao and other urban centers.

Escobal said that the hotline also signifies the HPG's commitment to the government's Philippine Road Safety Action Plan 2017-2022.

Smart will provide training and technical support to HPG personnel assigned to the hotline text center.

The text hotline is available 24/7  and has four HPG personnel manning operations. — BM, GMA News
