The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday said it will investigate reports that six graduates of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) were beaten-up by their underclassmen.

"I have not received the report yet, but if this is true, we condemn in the highest degree the beating of the newly-appointed inspectors by their underclassmen," PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao said.

A report by the Philippine Star said six members of the PNPA Maragtas Class of 2018 were beaten-up by their underclassmen inside their locker room right after graduation, where President Rodrigo Duterte was the guest of honor.

"This is breach of discipline and an affront to the long-standing tradition of the Philippine National Police Academy to accord respect to their upperclassmen," Bulalacao said.

The report said an investigation is already being conducted by the Police Regional Office 4-A (Calabarzon).

PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa's son, Rock, is a cadet at the PNPA. The report, quoting a source, said the top cop's son was not involved in the incident. —Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/ALG, GMA News
