Comelec lauds Inting’s appointment as commissioner
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday welcomed the appointment of Court of Appeals Justice Socorro Inting as commissioner of the poll body.
"The Commission on Elections welcomes the news of the appointment of Justice Socorro Inting to the post of Commissioner," said Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez in a statement.
"Justice Inting’s long experience in the judiciary will be an invaluable asset to the Commission, as it buckles down to the work of both ensuring the success of the 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections and preparing for the rapidly approaching 2019 National and Local Elections." he added.
Inting's appointment, as a replacement of retired commissioner Arthur D. Lim, was announced by presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Thursday.
She will serve a seven-year term that will end on February 2, 2025.
Inting hails from Davao City, hometown of President Rodrigo Duterte. according to her profile on the CA website.
Prior to her appointment to the CA in 2009, she was presiding judge of the Manila Regional Trial Court for over nine years and of the Makati Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 63 for almost three.
She had also served as a prosecutor for six years and a public attorney for seven, before which she was in private law practice.
Her appointment to the Comelec was confirmed less than a month before the barangay and SK elections, which after two postponements will push through on May 14.
