1,000 families in Cotabato flee homes due to flood
Floods from overflowing river forced the evacuation of some 1,000 families in a town in Cotabato, a television report said Thursday.
Unang Balita reported that heavy rains last Wednesday evening caused a river in Kabacan town to overflow, forcing some 1,000 families to fee their homes and seek a higher ground.
Three low-lying areas in the town were immediately flooded as the river overflowed, the report added.
In neighboring Makilala town, some low-lying areas were also flooded due to heavy rains, with floodwaters nearly reaching a national highway in the municipality.
Some families in the town were also evacuated for safety.
The mayors of the two towns have advised affected residents to evacuate as rivers in their areas continued to swell. —LBG, GMA News
