'Juaning’ intensifies into storm, nears Batanes-Japan area
Tropical depression "Juaning" has intensified into a tropical storm and continued to move toward the Batanes-Japan area Friday afternoon, state weather forecasters said. In its 5 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that as of 2 p.m., "Juaning" (international name Faxai) was 950 kilometers east-northeast of Basco, Batanes or 200 km south of Naha, Japan. "Juaning" packed maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, and is forecast to move north at 15 kph. Eastern and Southern Luzon will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be mostly cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over northern and eastern Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to northwest will prevail over Visayas and the rest of Luzon and coming from the southwest over Mindanao with slight to moderate seas. - GMANews.TV
