‘CLEAN RIDER CAMPAIGN’

PNP to collect personal data in bid to stop motorcycle crimes

The Philippine National Police will soon collect data from the country's motorcycle riders in a bid to crack down on motorcycle crimes.

Under PNP Memorandum Circular 2018-028 dated July 6, 2018 or Campaign Plan: Clean Rider, the PNP will process motorcycle riders' registration documents and those who papers are in order will be given "clean rider stickers."

Riders with clean rider stickers, according to the memo, will no longer be subjected to intensive verification processes at PNP checkpoints.

The PNP will then collect data from the clean rider sticker holders for the Motorcycle Riders Registration Databas System.

The campaign plan also calls for a data base of motorcycle riding suspects.

The memo is meant "to ensure the safety and security of motorcycle riders, to impound stolen motorcycles and to prevent crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects."

It was signed by PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde.

Data showed that from October 11, 2017 to June 4 , 2018, there were 933 shooting incidents committed by motorcycle-riding suspects. Of this number, 862 were murders and 71 were homicide cases. —NB, GMA News
