Eight Filipinos from different dioceses were chosen by Pope Francis to attend the Synod of Bishops on youth at the Vatican next month, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) reported on its website.

The Philippine delegation, which will be led by Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, will include Fr. Renato De Guzman of the Office for Pastoral Care of the Don Bosco Educational Center, Fr. Emmanuel Enrico Ayo of the Diocese of Parañaque, who will serve as one of the auditors, and Nicole Anne Perez, a catechist from the Manila archdiocese.

The pope also approved the bishops elected to represent the CBCP at the synod.

These are: Bishop Leopoldo Jaucian of Bangued, chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth (ECY); Bishop Patricio Buzon of Bacolod, ECY Vice Chairman; and Bishop Joel Baylon of Legazpi, former ECY head and current member of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences - Office of Laity and Family.

The pontiff also picked Filipino Bishop Pedro Baquero of Kerema diocese, as official delegate for the Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.

The church officials will attend the gathering that will be held at the Vatican from October 3 to 28 amid the ongoing international controversy on alleged sexual abuse by priests and cover up of these abuses by bishops  — BAP, GMA News
