Aklan divided into two legislative districts; Calamba, Laguna now a lone district
A law signed by President Rodrigo Duterte divided Aklan province into two legislative districts, while another established Calamba City in Laguna as a lone district.
Republic Act 11077 identified the towns that belong to Aklan's two new two districts.
The towns of Altavas, Balete, Banga, Batan, Kalibo, New Washington, Libacao and Madalag comprise the first legislative district.
The second legislative district, meanwhile, is composed of Buruanga, Ibajay, Lezo, Makato, Malay, Malinao, Nabas, Numancia and Tangalan.
The law mandates the incumbent Aklan representative—currently Carlito Marquez—to continue to represent the lone legislative district until the new representatives are elected in May 2019.
Republic Act 11078, meanwhile, separated Calamba from Laguna's second legislative district to make it a lone district.
Both laws were approved by Duterte on Monday. — BM, GMA News
