Analyst Heydarian's take on possible 3rd Mindanao martial law extension

Although it is the Executive branch's prerogative to further extend the martial law declaration in Mindanao, it must ensure that it will not lead to human rights abuses, GMA News resident analyst Richard Heydarian said Tuesday.

Heydarian gave his two cents a day after the military said it is recommending to President Rodrigo Duterte that the martial law in Mindanao be extended for another year.

Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Duterte is likely to approve the military's recommendation.

Heydarian, meanwhile, said the Executive must expect grilling from lawmakers once its request for martial law extension reaches Congress, which can either allow or disallow it. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
